I'm hoping to keep our hut simple by using the constructions diagrams on this website. Does anyone have advice on how to plan the space to sleep 4 persons. Bettter to have a long and narrow hut with a platform area or a squarer layout, lower roof? At the moment its us and two kids so at least one double sleeping area, ideally. Any suggestions or examples welcome!

I like the look of that! thanks for sharing
I went for quite a square shape(4.6 x 5.9m) with a double bed in the main part of the hut as I wanted to be able to see straight out of the window from bed. Just off the picture are big double doors that can also be left wide open at night in the summer. Behind is a small room with bunks(or could take another double bed)It provides somewhere a bit quieter for kids to get to sleep(If you put a door on) or privacy for people to wash and change if it's needed. The bunk room is facing north and is quite dark with one little window so it's the place that any winter dampess tends to linger because it doesn't get much sun. I leave the window open a crack which seems to deal with it. In the opposite corner to the bunk room is another, smaller, partitioned area for the composting toilet which is accessed from outside. I find this leaves a nice big area where furniture can be moved back or lifted outside easily through the big doors if kids are crashing around. It works well for my needs. It's very low at 2.5m at it's highest point. Extra height for a mezanine obviously gives you more living space and also costs more
Thats a neat idea. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll take a look
Have you considered hammocks? Have a look at The Mexican Hammock Co. web site for real-world hammocks. You sleep across the hammock and they are used every night in South America by millions of people. Good fun for kids. I'd avoid a low-ceiling, especially in a long, thin hut...could feel oppressive and like an Army barracks.
We are hoping to hang an occasional bunk for two guests in our 12ft x 16ft hut off of a high wall (3.5m) A high wall somewhere in the hut gives this option.
Good luck with your hut!
