I shall be needing insurance soon for a hut under construction. I would like to know if other hutters have been successful in finding insurance? Who did you use? What was the cost? Could you recommend them?
I have filled out a quotation form with "Love Your Hut" but no reply to date. Also awaiting quotes from my usual woodland liability insurer, but huts seem to be something insurers are unfamiliar with. Wondering if I should instead just look for "holiday home" insurance and say it's an off-grid, timber "chalet" in the centre of a wood. Hopefully, they can get their heads around that.
Anyway, what is your experience?

My hut is insured through a company named L.Wood, who offer cover for static caravans, lodges, chalets, cabins. Their site is at https://www.lwood.co.uk/ I deal with someone there named Tyra, who is very helpful. (I have no affiliation to this company other than as a customer for several years)
Ok, gave up on NFU local agent who didn’t live up to their brand value; they just never got back to me despite a couple of chasers. In the end I secured ‘non-standard home insurance’ from HomeProtect written with Axa. Buildings Only policy with £5m Public Liability = £145 per annum.
There are a couple of other posts on here about insurance. Some of our hutters used Ryans insurance. http://www.ryans.co.uk
I used the NFU and got a good rate because we already insure tons of stuff with them (Farm buildings, livestock, machinery etc, etc) and because it's quite near my house it's classed as an outbuilding so not likely to be an option for most huts.
So far nothing from NFU. I've asked for an update and "someone will get back to me".....
Like you, I've heard nothing back from 'Love Your Hut' having completed their online form several weeks ago. I also phoned a local NFU agent in Ingliston and are willing to consider a quote for the hut if I move my main property insurance to them. That latter proposal is still going through the machinations of the underwriters and I'll let you know the result.
